Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD hosted a Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) training session at R. L. Turner High School for all teachers in the district.
Led by Sergeant Joseph Nault, Carrollton Police Department, the CRASE course is designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004. It provides strategies, guidance, and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event.
Topics included the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options, medical issues, and considerations for conducting drills.
Active shooter incidents are often unexpected and can evolve quickly. This workshop took an in-depth look at who an active shooter can be and how bystanders can play a crucial role in alleviating the impact of an active shooter incident.
